Suggest Treatment For Hemorrhagic Stroke

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: I am in China with my husband who has had a right cerebral hemorrhagic stroke. We are in an international hospital so everyone speaks english to verying degrees. Their protocol has been for him to lay prone in bed until the hematoma absorbs back into the brain. It was not a large bleed so surgery is not necessary. They also are keeping his BP down with medication and have him on a potassium drip. Does their treatment sound correct? Please email your response, I cannot receive a phone call here.

Brief Answer:
Yes treatment is correct.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Hemorrhagic strokes if don't require surgery are best treated by symptomatic conservative treatment.
The bleeding that has occured would gradually absorb.
Important here is to maintain his blood pressure, prevent bed sores, give him feeding, prevent from infection and to restore early mobility.
In case he is a diabetic then his blood sugars needs to be well controlled.
Tell me following:
1. How many days it has been that he got stroke?
2. Is he conscious? Talking to you?
3. Is he accepting feeds?
4. Is he in ICU or wards?
5. Did he get any seizure after stroke?
Revert with these details.

Detail Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.

Double vision and weakness in legs is a part of the stroke only. If he is conscious and talking to you I feel everything is fine. Infact you can ask your doctors to shift him from ICU to private room. After few days you can even go back safely to your hometown.

As far as your query is concerned the care and treatment being given there seems to be appropriate.

If you have any further query please ask me else close the discussion and rate it.
Stat Healthy.
