Brief Answer:
Take MOTRIN 400mg first, do not start Allopurinol

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Please do not start Allopurinol without knowledge of your treating doctor.
I suggest you to take safe and effective medicine like MOTRIN 400mg for temporary pain relief and swelling. Along put ice pack and elevate the big toe while u sleep or sit that helps quick relief.
Allopurinol interacts with diuretics (HCTZ) so may need dose adjustment again.
So please see your doctor before taking Allopurinol.

Brief Answer:
Follow your treating doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If your doctor is fine with low dose of allopurinol you can continue. Your doctor should be comfortable treating during follow ups. I do not say it wrong to give Allopurinol but for short flare ups with pain we generally give NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and colchicine. Allopurinol is for chronic gout to avoid flares if the Uric acid is shooting up over 5 mg/dl.

What you can do is ask his feedback about my opinion.
