If you suspect that you have a bladder infection, go to your doctor or urgent care clinic where they will do a urinalysis. If it looks like it is a bladder infection, they should send the urine sample for a "culture and sensitivity" test. This test will show which antibiotics the bacteria, if present, will be most susceptible to.
If you have a fever, flank pain, or nausea, this usually means a kidney infection, and you definitely need an antibiotic for that.
If it is an "uncomplicated" bladder infection, sometimes you can get by with increasing water, cranberry juice and cranberry capsules, and taking AZO for bad pain.
