Suggest Treatment For Fluid-filled Bumps On Penile Shaft

Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: Hello Dr,

2-3 days I noticed 3 fluid filled bumps on the shaft of my penis while I was showering. I proceded to scrub and pop them. Clear fluid came out. 1 day later those bumps turned into tiny ulcers. The ulcers are painless and non itchy. At first I thought the bumps were from recently shaving but I am extremely worried because I do not know why they turned into ulcers. I now have 3 more fluid filled bumps around the ulcers. I am sexually active. My partner visited her gyno just 1 month ago. Can you please help me.

Thank you.

If you send a picture of it then it will be more helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. If you send picture of it then it will be more helpful in identifying.
As it is non itchy an painless , it can be most likely fordyce spots which are modified sebaceous prominences. These are harmless. Using aloe vera gel locally and consuming more garlic and anti oxidants will e helpful to abort its occurrence. Avoid genital area to be more sweaty and greasy as in such conditions can stimulate occurrence of fordyce spots.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

I doubt they are fordyce spot. I dont belive fordyce spots are fluid filled nor do i think they turn into ulcer. Please correct me if i am wrong. Each ulcer does have a hair follicle goibg through it making me thibk is was folliculities but i do not believe that would cause an ulcer. Possibly syphilis? Please help. I will attatch a picture

Brief Answer:
Looks like folliculitis.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

I have gone through your picture. It looks like folliculitis. Folliculitis can give ulcer if it is bursted. Avoid soaps and irritants and you can use warm water or saline to wash the area. You can apply betadine ointment locally also.

Primary syphilis usually presented as chancre or burned like lesion. This will be painless also. Syphilis can be ruled out by VDRL blood test. Even if it is negative i would suggest a week therapy with doxycycline to be on safe side if you had history of unprotected sex.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Genital herpes rash can look like this. As you not having any itching, pain or burning sensation it is most unlikely. Herpes will be having irritation, pain or burning and itching sensation.
