Suggest Treatment For Feeling Of Food Stuck In Throat And Chest Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Nov 2016
Question: Hi doctor,

For past 5-6 days, i feel my food stuck in the throat while eating. It occurs at the lower middle portion of my chest. A week ago, i also suffered from stomach pain to which i was suggested by doctor that i had acidity. I also take an antacid syrup after eating. My stomach is fine now but chest pain still exists during eating. Rest of the time, am totally fine. There is also no breathing problem. Is it something i should worry about or its just because of acidity?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
most likely Acid reflux symptoms only..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX welcome to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Yes, as per your description, it seems to be related to the recently diagnosed acid reflux disease only..

I'd advice you to start taking a PPI/antacid with a prokinetic agent combination i.e. Cap PANTOPRAZOLE/DOMPERIDONE (40/30)mg Once daily in empty stomach 15-20 min before breakfast for next 15 days and observe how you stay..

There can be associated swelling(inflammation) of the Esophago-gastric mucosa, which may be causing this pain, for this you should -

1. Eat in small portion, chew foods properly before swallowing..

2. Avoid junk/ spicy/ deep fried/ too hot/ sour food particles..

3. Try not to talk while eating..

4. Avoid any smoking/ alcohol (if you consume)..

5. Avoid too many tea/coffee also (1-2 cups per day is fine)..

6. Try to maintain a time gap of ~ 2.5-3 hr between each meal..try to have your dinner ~2.5 hr prior to your bedtime..

7. Keep the head end a bit higher while sleeping (using a bigger/extra pillow will help)..

It doesn't appear too serious as of now, so don't worry.. If despite following all these, the problem persists/worsens, then it's advisable to undergo for a Chest X-ray (PA view) and a clinical check-up by a Gastroenterologist to decide regarding any need to undergo for a Upper GI Endoscopy examination subsequently..
