Question: Hello Doctor,
I have had for a long time a problem in my mouth , The problem is that have had a rough feeling in my tongue for a long time. I don't feel this rough sensation all the time , but when I feel it is really uncomfortable . Other symptom I have is that sometimes my palate gets really dry. I've noticed that it gets dry when I'm hungry or in the afternoon. The last symptom is that I feel like grains of sand at the edge of my tongue , this is the most uncomfortable symptom because I feel those grains almost all the time when I touch my inner lower lip with my tongue. I've read that the possible cause of my problem is GERD, and some other persons recommend the H pylori test. I took the H pylori blood test and the result was really high. I've got a 7.7 . So my question is: Is it related with my problem? and What do you recommend me to do?

Thank you so much for your help,

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. dry mouth, sensation of something stuck in the throat and palate, sand grains feeling on and off with history of GERD and gastritis and h pylori screening positive is likely explained by your gastric discomfort symptoms. GERD and gastritis can cause such symptoms treating underlying cause of GERD & Gastritis with medications and diet lifestyle adjustments help.

Stay hydrated, take adequate fluids, if you smoke or chew tobacco avoid that, avoid beer or alcohol. Reduce caffeine or tea intake. avoid soda or all other carbonated beverages. Eat small frequent meals. Use sugar free gums or candies and chew them, brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste to prevent infections or cavities of teeth.

Get evaluated for other causes of dry mouth as well. It could be side effect of some medication, a salivary gland problem, an autoimmune disorder like sjogren syndrome ( less likely though as that involves not just mouth but all mucous membranes like eyes etc as well ). Use artificial saliva as you do.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
