default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: Yes, I have a question about a recent condition I seem to be having. It started with a case of diarrhea, but now includes a low grade fever (99.5), trouble sleeping and some restlessness. Should I see my family doctor? I have hypertension (kept under control with medication), cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia. I have a pace maker/defibrillator.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description, infectious diarrhea needs to be ruled out. If there is blood or leucocytes/pus cells in stool , leucocytosis on blood counts , fever and tenesmus then antibiotics would be required in addition to isotonic fluid replacement.

It wouldn'tbe a bad idea to see your family physician. He can order a stool routine examination plus for ova / parasites and a complete blood count. Assessment for degree of dehydration can also be done in the same setting and treatment be advised accordingly.

wishing you best of health

Thanks
