Suggest Treatment For Constipation, Nausea And Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017
Question: I went to the ER yesterday for constipation and nausea and stomach pain. They did a cat Scan and ultra sound and said that I was full of loose stool but they never told me how to get it out. They said don't use a laxative. How am I suppose to go? I feel like I have to go but nothing is moving out. I still feel nausea also. They gave me morphine for the pain but when I got home I threw up. At the moment I am not in pain and I have the urge to go but nothing is coming out. What should I do to go?

Brief Answer:
Impacted stools.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns.
Most likely you have a stool impaction therefore your doctor asked you not to take laxative initially. You need to go for Digital evacuation. It involves the use of fingers to aid in the removal of stool from the rectum.Stool is emptied by gently inserting a finger into the rectum and removing it. Once impacted stool is removed ask you gastroenterologist to prescribe you Polyethelene Glycol.Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution is used to empty the colon. PEG-ES is in a class of medications called osmotic laxatives. It works by causing watery diarrhea so that -the stool can be emptied from the colon. The medication also contains electrolytes to prevent dehydration and other serious side effects that may be caused by fluid loss as the colon is emptied.Polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution (PEG-ES) comes as a powder to mix with water and take by mouth. You have to drink one 8 ounce of PEG-ES every 10 or 15 minutes, and to continue drinking until your liquid bowel movements are clear. It will clear your bowel.

After that long term life style modification has to be followed.

Reduction of constipation and soften stool by consuming enough fiber and water.
Strengthen and fortify vascular and connective tissue in the anal area and elsewhere by consumption of anti inflammatory diet.
Lifestyle measures to avoid hemorrhoids e. G. Good bowel function, exercise and healthy evacuation posture.
Reducing constipation and softening stool:
Consume high fiber foods as a part of high biber diet. Grain products: (6-11 servings of grain product in your diet is required daily) whole grain breads, whole wheat, whole grain mixed grain, cracked wheat, buns, muffins. Brown ricewhole wheat pasta or brown rice pastacereals made from whole grain oatmeal ground flax, wheat germ or wheat XXXXXXX in baked goods vegetables: (3-5 servings daily) dark green leafy vegetables contain heigest amounts of fiber e. G. Spinach, broccoli, green peas, green beans, turnip greens. Fruits: (2-3 serving of fruits) apples. Oranges, pears, peaches. Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries) dried fruits (dates, prunes apricots legumes, nuts and seeds
Black bean, green beans, peas, kidney bean, lentils, peanut, soy beanWalnuts, peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds

High fiber food relieves the constipation which ultimately reduces the abdominal and colonic pressure resulting low incidence of hemorrhoid.

Plenty of water as a part of a hemorrhoid diet: water is key for fiber to function as an antidote to constipation
Avoid a diet high in refined carbohydrate as part of your hemorrhoid diet.
Avoid saturated fats, non vegetarian food, trans-fats which leads to inflammation.
Strengthen and fortify vascular and connective tissue in the anal area and elsewhere by consumption of anti inflammatory diet.
Omega 3 fat: it plays important role in maintaining healthy skin and mucus membrane. It has important anti inflammatory function which is extremely useful when it is consumed in a condition like hemorrhoids. As the consumption of omega 3 fat increases ratio of omega 6 and omega 3 lowers. It is abundant in cold water fish and their oils and in seeds and their oils e. G. Flax seeds

Keep on using laxatives along with these changes in diet.

I had a BM 4 days ago so I can't see how I can be impacted. Also wouldn't they have seen that when I went to the ER? I would have thought that they would have removed an impaction when I was at the hospital.

Brief Answer:
follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear.

Please mention what your doctor prescribed you at Emergency room?

Have they examined you digitally?
If not to use laxative then what have they suggested you at discharge time?
Why they asked you not to use laxatives?

Just want to know their opinion.

Waiting!

He didn't prescribe anything except he gave me a prescription for Bentyl for pain. No they did not examine me digitally, they did not advise me to do anything really. When I asked him how I was suppose to go he just looked at me and didn't say anything. He didn't say why not to use laxatives either. I guess he felt it would come out itself sooner or later if it was loose. He did write on my discharge papers to see my Gasto Doctor if it wasn't better in 2 days. Not a very good PA as far as I'm concerned.

I am passing a lot of gas......My instructions on my dischare paper was to stay on a liquid diet and his diagnosis was abdominal pain a d diarrhea. This might sound gross but I inserted my finger up inside me and I don't feel any feces up there.

Brief Answer:
Use fleet enema.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
My suggestion is go for a fleet enema. In case there is no impaction then stool will pass away and you can continue taking laxative after that.
I don't think wait and watch without a reason will help.
Don't worry just go for a fleet enema.

Follow up after that!
