Suggest Treatment For Conjunctivitis

Question: Sunday my right eye was itchy and red and starting to swell a bit. Monday morning it was so caked and crusted over, it took me a full 5 minutes with a warm cloth to clean it so I could open my eye. I went to the doctor (GP) who said it was likely viral (I have had two kids at home with fevers) and she still gave me antibiotic drops just in case. I'm not seeing much improvement. Today I noticed my right lymph lode was very tender to touch. Is this just viral and needs to run its course? My right eye is still red and swollen.

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This is conjunctivitis. Usually these are mixed infections.Such crustiness and discharge indicates more of bacterial infection.we usually treat them with antibiotic drops as well as antibiotic eye ointment at bed time and such lymph nodes, mostly in front of mmiddle part of ear is a indication of oral antibiotics like Doxycycline100 mg.twice a day.
Conjunctivitis if left untreated may lead to significant long term difficulties.

Thank you for your reply.

I am putting in the eye drops as prescribed. Do you think I should return or go see an ophthalmologist as well or just wait and see?

Thank you.

That will be a good idea It will be better if you use medication for a day or two so the doctor also gets a feedback if he has to change strategy or not.
