Brief Answer:
Medicines do not decrease immunity

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query at HealthCareMagic. Firstly, there are two things that I would like to ask.
1. Is the baby breast fed or are top feeds being given?
2. What is the birth weight and present weight of the baby and was it born preterm?

Let me mention that coughing, sneezing and hiccups are normal in case of a newborn or a child of 1 month age. Hence, these do not mean catching cold. If there is nasal blockage, applying saline drops should help and I would not classify that too as catching cold. However, if there is respiratory distress, it is indeed a sign of catching cold and requires immediate attention. So I would be glad if you could clarify your problem a bit further. Only then I would be able to comment on the requirement of medicines. If you are giving any medicine, please mention the names and whether they have been prescribed by your pediatrician.

I would insist you not to get anxious. Just continue the breast feeding. It is enough to supply the adequate immunity to the child. Medicines if given, are not likely to decrease the immunity.

Hope it helps. Please revert back with the relevant details and I would try to help further.

Brief Answer:
Breastfeeding provides immunity to the baby

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. It is good to hear that the baby is exclusively breast fed. Hence the necessary immunoglobulins from the breast milk will provide protection. Please continue saline nasal drops in order to relieve nose block which is indeed a sign of cold. No further medicine required if there are no other signs of distress.

Hope that helps. If you have been benefitted by my answer please care to leave a 5 star rating and a positive review.
