default
Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: I have a few small swollen lymph nodes on the right back side of my neck. I found them about 10 days ago and I did have a cold 2 weeks ago. No pain it feels smaller than a pea, when should I worry about this. I'm really stressed over it although I have no fever or night sweats etc.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry at present

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thank you for posting your query on Health care magic.

I can understand your concern.

You suffered from cold(nasal infection-2 weeks ago).

There are about 300 lymph nodes in the head and neck region Normally they are not palpable. During an infection or as a response to inflammation, these lymph nodes enlarge. However they rarely regress to their original size and hence remain palpable thereafter. You might be suffering from Lymphnode enlargement in posterior part of neck as a result of infection in the nose.

It does not seems to worry at present.
Only if the lymph node gets enlarged in size(more than 1 cm),or becomes painful/tender/hard/non-motile, then only it would be a concern and advisable to consult an Otolaryngologist Doctor.

Hope this answers your question.I would be happy to answer if you have any follow-up questions.Take care.

So these small bumps that I feel may not go away? Is that what you mean when you said they may remain palpable?

Hi,thank you for your follow-up query.

The small sized lymph node palpable in the posterior part of neck may regress in size as time passes or may remain palpable.

As mentioned earlier, only if the lymph node gets enlarged in size(more than 1 cm),or becomes painful/tender/hard/non-motile, then only it would be a concern and advisable to consult an Otolaryngologist Doctor.
