Suggest Treatment For Clogged Ear And Sinus Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: My left ear has been clogged for 2 months due to a horrible sinus cold. I ended up at urgent care where they told me to take sudafed and mucinex which i have been doing for nearly 2 weeks. They said i had no infection. However now i am experiencing severe pain w the congested ear canal and i am wondering what to do. I cant get ANY relief and it constantly feels like my sinuses and ears are draining but its still not clearing. I bought some flonase tonight and havent used it yet bc im nervous to mix too many meds - earlier tonight i took 2 exfra strength tylenol and a sudafed mucinex combo pill. Please help.

Brief Answer:
You may need a course of antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
Congestion and pain in the ear canal could be due to infection. Your recurrent ear problems could ve due to sinus pathology.
Steroid nasal spray is indicated for allergic sinus disease. Use only if you have symptoms of allergic sinusitis.
I recommend the following.
1) A course of antibiotics.
2) Analgesic like tablet paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief.
3) Oral decongestant like pseudoephedrine. Eg. Sudafed.
4) Avoid allergens like dust.
5) Avoid smoking. If you don't have this habit kindly ignore this suggestion.
6) Steam inhalation. This will promote sinus drainage and improve sinus ventilation.
You will be fine.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.

So should i go to urgent care tomorrow and get Z pack? Should i take flonase? I am having headache, drainage and sinus pressure. 2 months ago i got the worst head cold ive ever had - i am sure my ears are infected from that.

Brief Answer:
Yes, you need a z pack.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up.
Yes consult your doctor for Z pack. Your symptoms are not suggestive of allergic rhinitis, so you need not use steroid nasal spray.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Take care.
