Question: Hello,
My mother was recently diagonised with Chronic Kidney Disease which is being medically managed. Attached is the procedure & discharge summary.
My Question is - she is advised to take Nepro LP powder - taking that she is vomitting and passing frequent motions. Also normally after hospitalization - she is pale and yellow. Any antibiotics or anything causing the issue?

Brief Answer:
Chronic kidney disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

i have gone through the discharge summary and reports you have attached and these are my suggestions.

1. Your mother has something known as acute on chronic kidney disease. This increase in creatinine is because of cellulitis (infection) of the lower limbs
2. Small size of the kidneys indicates that this kidney disease might not be reversible
3. It looks like she is not tolerating Nepro Lp powder. I recommend Pro-70 powder instead. Another alternative is to eat egg white once in two days. Please avoid high protein diet like red meat, sprouts, etc
4. She is pale and yellow because of low hemoglobin. They have replenished the iron stores, it will take 2 weeks for the hemoglobin to improve.
5. Restrict fluid intake to less than 1-1.2 litres a day
6. Follow a low salt and low potassium diet

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

First of all - Thank you Dr XXXXXXX for taking time out and considering this question - In todays world time is the best treasure given to anyone.
I had an additional question:
- Due to her low diet intake and considering so many tablets - we have been giving her egg white on a daily basis - should I cut it down to alternate day?
- Egg yellow is totally restricted for her?
- Any other foods that you suggest which can increase her stamina/haemoglobin?

Hello

Thanks for getting back. I try and take the time to answer on healthcaremagic, it helps patients who cant get a specialist appointment soon enough.

- You can give her a high calorie diet. Carbohydrate diet can be taken, for example rice, chapathi and rotis are nor restricted
- Low salt and fluid restricted diet is the most important
- I recommend myfitness pal app to all my patients who are tech oriented, it gives the break up of all the food items. Make sure the protein intake is less than 0.8g/kg. One egg white a day is ok, provided it does not exceed the recommended value
-Egg yellow has high cholesterol, please avoid it.
- For stamina, my advise is to improve her hemoglobin to atleast 11.0 mg/dl by taking the erythropoetin injection and iron tablets.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
