Question: Hi,
I have chronic kidney disease stage 2. I want to know if holding my urine beyond a normal urgency to and past the pain stage could cause additional damage to my kidneys.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
NO

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this kidney disease. Holding back from urinating would not damage your kidneys any further. However, it is not considered a healthy practice as you go through pains that could have been easily avoided. The best practice is always to void whenever you get the urge and the environment is conducive.

I will suggest that you follow up with your nephrologist and take great care of your kidneys to prevent rapid deterioration. It starts with good diet, no smoking, and do not take pain medications especially Tylenol without your doctor's consent.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
