Suggest Treatment For Chills And Lower Abdominal Pain When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: My husband had sudden pain in his lower right side, shortly afterwards he tried to go to the bathroom. He passed some bowel movement, sweated enough to take a shower afterwards. Then he got chills and went to bed to get warm. Off and on for the next 1-2 hours he did have some bowel movements, the pain went away and he slept off and on through the night. He is still not feeling well, no pain though feels he could be getting warm again. No fever during this episode. He did have surgery Dec 1 for tear in rotator cufft and bisep. Takes Oxycodone-Acetaminophen 5-325 at night and possibly once during day since the surgery. Should he eat soft food, more or less fiber to see how this goes? He does not go regularly every day - his normal routine and has not had such problem before now. We both ate salad w/eggs, strips of ham & turkey, etc. for lunch with poppyseed dressing. I ate everything he did and did not have a problem. I have diverticulitis and have to eat a lot of fiber but watch how I get it. I did not have any problems so far.He is to start physical therapy this afternoon for his shoulder/left arm. Will this have any affect on this other physical episode?

Brief Answer:
As detailed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Read the history well and understood the concerns.
This episode looks to be due to colitis and be due to either infective pathology or intolerance to something he ate.
Since he has surgery recently, must have taken antibiotics, other medications and still taking medicines does alter the GI flora getting such after effects.
I would advise the following:
Keep a watch over further developments.
Send stool and blood for tests.
Consult a Doctor or at ER .
Wait for Physio till gets fit.
Give a PPI and probiotics.

I hope this answer helps, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
