Brief Answer:
x-ray chest and blood tests.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your son is having cough. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any sequence of sneezes followed by running nose ?
Is his cough dry or wet (with sputum) ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be allergic rhinitis inducing the cough.

Family history of allergy or asthma will have asthma in future generations.

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome his cough.

1. I suggest you to do x-ray chest, blood tests (complete blood picture, IgE). In case of productive sputum with x-ray changes, he requires antibiotics, steroids and broncho dilators.

2. Avoid giving chocolates, ice creams, freezer products and curd.

3. Start anti allergic prophylactic medications like syrup. montel-lc (cetrizine + montelukast) daily 5ml at bed time for 3-6 months.

Kindly discuss with your treating doctor, about these instructions, investigations and medications, as they are prescribed medications, needs to be taken under medical supervision.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
