Posted on Tue, 24 Mar 2015
Question: I have had a burning pain in my lower left abdomen for months now. Its always there but sometimes more painful than other times... especially when I cough or sneeze. My doctor did a physical examination, blood tests and ultrasounds. All they found was a small cycst on one ovary. What could this pain be? Feeling helpless. I am a 32 year old women with two previous cesarean sections and a tubal ligation. No other health issues.

Brief Answer:
Pain due to adhesions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I understand your concerns about pain abdomen.

You have undergone 2 cesarean deliveries and one tubal ligation.

These repeated surgeries cause adhesions in abdomen. Meaning uterus , bowels and other parts get stuck to each other and cause pain while excessive abdominal pressure is put as in sneezing or coughing.

If pain is unbearable you may have to undergo adhesion releasing surgery. You can wait if its bearable.

This pain is unrelated to cyst you have mentioned.

I hope your doubt is cleared.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you.Well adhesions would definetly make sense. Just curious to know if its common for the pain level to vary with adhesions from day to day? Some days I barely notice anything while other days it seems extra sore.

Brief Answer:
Variation in pain is expected

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are right.

It is possible for variation of pain on day to day basis during adhesions. At times it is so severe that you wont be able to perform any work and other times you wont even know it exists.

There is variation expected in pain due to adhesions.

Let me know if you need any more clarifications.
