Suggest Treatment For Active Chronic Hepatitis-C

Question: I'm a 59 year old male who has active chronic Hepatitis C. I'm currently in nursing school pursuing my RN license. I've really been anxious and depressed about the fact that not only may I be too old, but no one will ever hire me with my hep c. I've been told that pre-employment physicals will include a blood test. I just don't see any hope of being hired as a nurse. Please be honest and tell me if I'm justified about my concerns.

Brief Answer:
It's your right to get the license&work with hep c patients

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am happy to hear about a person of your age with a strong willing and determined to pursue RN license. It is your right to get the license and take care of patients.

I have noted that there is another doctor giving an opinion on your case. I do agree with his opinion: you can join a hepatologist clinic and take care of hep c patients.

Discuss this further with your professors specialized in hepatology.

Good luck and God bless!

Hi,
My real question is will I be able to work with the general population. I'm not talking surgery but I am talking about med surgery, or even possibly a psych unit. I currently work at a nursing home. They know nothing of my condition. I feel I'll be discriminated against if I freely announce my condition.
I'd imagine that getting work at a hepatology clinic would be very limited, if even existent at all. So my question is "Once my blood work shows my positive hep c status can the employer (hospital, clinic, nursing home) refuse to hire me based on my condition. Will I be discriminated against because of my condition.

Very Worried, XXXX.

Just wondering if my last message went through. I'm also interested in home health care nursing. Will I be discriminated in that pursuit with my hep c XXXX

Brief Answer:
can work after reversing from active hepatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

To my opinion, you should treat and reverse active hepatitis first. Then it is ok if you work in a nursing home especially if you follow the antiseptic rules rigorously and wear gloves when run procedures.

You can also work as a lecturer in the Faculty.

Once again, good luck!
