Brief Answer:
The treatment is on right tract. This is 2nd line drug regime for ITP.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

ITP is idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
The exact cause of ITP is not known.
Viral infections are known to precipitate ITP.
Steroids are the mainstay of treatment for IPT accompanied by symptomatic treatment.
Your doctor prescribed a steroid prednisolone after diagnosis of ITP.
Following this steroid the platelets did not improve, thus, more potent steroids in the forms of omnacortil and azoran.
Dapsone is a drug which is used in patients of ITP who do not respond to first line steroids as in your sons case.
The response to the new drug regime needs to be monitored.
The treatment is on right tract.
Please stay in touch with your treating doctor so as to monitor the response to new drug regime.
Increase in platelet count implies response to treatment.

Brief Answer:
Drugs with anti-platelet effect should not be taken.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Treatment can be taken for minor ailments when taking steroids for ITP.
However, drugs which are affect the platelets or drugs which are anti-platelet should be avoided.
Anti-platelet drugs used for common ailments are NSAIDS like aspirin, paracetamol, brufen etc.
Any drug that you take should be first consulted by a doctor by giving the history of ITP.
Wish your son a speedy recovery!

Thanks and take care
