Question: I am a 49 year old female with Meniere's Disease, hypothyroidism (treated) and unexplained multiple T1and T2 brain lesions (spinal tap negative for MS). I recently underwent a craniotomy and vestibular nerve section for my Meniere's and am just over one month post-op. For the past few weeks since the surgery I have been having intense sweating episodes where my body temperature measures very low (94.8-95.3), slowly returning to normal after the sweating passes. This happens several times a day/night. I also have almost a constant headache and the past couple of days have developed a stiff neck and dry mouth. My blood sugar was high while in the hospital and my thyroid is always a possible issue so my primary care doc ran some bloodwork which all came back pretty normal (TSH 1.4; HIV neg; A1C 5). I also am having occasional searing like pain originating from the surgery sight--maybe this is normal. I would really like to know what is the most likely cause of the recent symptoms and which course of action I should be pursuing. The advice nurse with my insurance just tells me to go to the ER. I'd really rather avoid that nightmare if possible. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
These are all potential side effects of the surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. These are all potential side effects of the surgery.

2. Bring these to the notice of your surgeon.

3. It will take 4 to 6 months or more for these symptoms to settle down.

4. Get a Neurologist's opinion since you have a stiff neck, dry mouth and pain. A CSF leak or meningism may be causing these symptoms.

5. How are your Meniere's symptoms after this surgery?

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
