default
Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015
Question: I have high blood pressure and need something to calm this dry, persistent cough I have. I believe it is from post nasal drip since I can tell that is happening. I just can't get any sleep, my throat, neck, head, and chest are beginning to hurt from all the coughing.

I need a high BP friendly cough solution, please. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Zedex cough syrup, steam inhalation

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query and I understand that dry cough can be very annoying.

Since how long you have been facing these problem?
Is it associated with fever?
Do you have any sinus related problem?
Has it occurred in the past or is this for first time?

Presently I would suggest you to take Zedex ( bromhexine hydrochloride 4 mg, dextromethorphan hydrobromide 5 mg, ammonium chloride 50 mg, menthol 2.5 mg/5 mL) cough syrup 2tsps thrice daily for 7 days to get rid of the dry cough.
Steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil, will be helpful in reducing the post nasal drip, and this irritation of the throat and cough.

Avoid smoking and kindly observe and find out is there any exposure of irritant that might be responsible.

If you do not recover within three days, a chest x ray and sputum culture is required to rule out other causes.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
