Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction urticaria or hives

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your healthcare concerns

You have been suffering with red swolen itchy ear for several days and despite using benadryl th itching and redness persists. Thsi sounds like you have an allergy to something. My first thought here is that you may have developed a rash to something in your bed or pillow. Despite not having prior reactions does not mean that you can't develop them. So my first recommendation is to change your bed sheets and pillow linen. Wash them in deft or other hypoallergenic detergent and DO NOT USE fabric softener. Fabric softener causes more allergies than most other detergents. Other possible allergens are house dust, bed mites, pollens and lastly foods. You may even try vacuuming your bed to remove house dust and then putting your mattress and pillows in covers to reduce house dust and bed mites

Next I recommend stopping the benadryl and use loratadine or fexofenadine as they are better antihistamines. If these medications do not help you may need to be seen by your medical provider and given a short course of steroids.

In summary
1. change bed linen
2. Wash bed linen with hypoallergenic detergents
3. DO NOT USE fabric softener
4. Vacuum pillow and mattress
5. get pillow and mattress covers
6. Switch to loratadine or fexofenadine for antihistamine
7 see provider for steroids if all else fails
