I have told him I have irregular periods and even then prescribed me this tablets. I had failed to read the additional sheet until recently and read it leads to depression, problematic mensus, depression, suicidal tenancies and few other side affects. Please advice on this

Brief Answer:
No need to take isotretinoin unless there is severe acne

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

First of all, I will like to assure you that PCOS is not a totally incurable illness.
It is a derangement of hormones and glucose metabolism in the body which leads to weight gain, excessive hair on the body, acne, acanthosis nigricans (blackening of skin folds) and irregular periods. PCOS gets better once you start loosing weight and take proper medications.
The periods become regular once the hormonal profile of your body is improved by exercise, diet and weight loss.

I deriva is isotretinoin which is given for severe acne and which is not treated by the drugs with minimal side effect. And yes isotretinoin has many side effects like:
Common :
Bone or joint pain
burning, redness, itching, or other signs of eye inflammation
difficulty moving
nosebleeds
scaling, redness, burning, pain, or other signs of inflammation of the lips
skin infection or rash
Rare:
Abdominal or stomach pain (severe)
attempts at suicide or thoughts of suicide (usually stops after medicine is stopped)
back pain
bleeding or inflammation of the gums
blurred vision or other changes in vision
changes in behavior
decreased vision after sunset or before sunrise (sudden or may continue after medicine is stopped)
diarrhea (severe)
headache (severe or continuing)
mental depression
nausea and vomiting
pain or tenderness of the eyes
pain, tenderness, or stiffness in the muscles (long-term treatment)
rectal bleeding
yellow eyes or skin
Moreover, this drug should not be prescribed if one is planning to conceive, as it causes severe teratogenic effects in the fetus.
A woman who is prescribed this drug should be advised to not to get pregnant for at least next 2 years.

In my opinion, you do not need this drug at all if you do not have very severe untreatable acne. I will suggest you discuss my opinion with the treating doctor. Alternatively I will suggest that you visit a competent gynecologist who knows about PCOS management.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
