Brief Answer:
You need to take antacids, mouth washes and mouth freshners

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, regarding bad breath, and since you have visited a dentist so possibility of mouth infections must have been ruled out. Still for the possibility of post nasal drip, sinuses infections or some other oral infections get reviewed by an ENT specialist and if needed use anti histamines. For oral cavity to remain low in growth of bacteria you can use mouth washes which are available in variety of favors too. Temporariy avaialable formulations of mouth freshners can be refreshing but those can give you fresh breath for a while and you need to use them repeatedly. Also use antacids like omeperazole or pantoprazole before meals for few weeks after discussing with your GP. Chewing cordimum every now and then can also be quiet useful. Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
