Posted on Sat, 1 Oct 2016
Question: I HAVE BEEN HAVING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF POST NASAL DRAINAGE WITH A SLIGHT SORE THROAT. I HAVE NO PREVIOUS HISTORY OF ALLERGIES. THE DRAINAGE CONTRIBUTES TO A DEEP COUGH WHICH DISTURBS SLEEP. I STARTED TAKING LORATADINE AT NIGHT TO TRY TO HELP, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN IMPROVEMENT. TODAY I TOOK A ZERTEC BUT FELT NO DIFFERENCE. MY EYES FEEL TIRED AND PUFFY. I FEEL I CONSTANTLY SWALLOW AND GAG ON THIS THICK MUCOUS DRAINAGE. I ALSO USE SALINE NASAL RINSE TO HELP THIN SECRETIONS. NO FEVER CHILLS, MALICE.. SOME EAR POPPING

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation, xylometazoline nasal spray

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
I would have examined your nose & sinuses by doing diagnostic nasal endoscopy to see any chronic source of infection.
Provide additional information
Is it associated with sore throat?
Do you have sinusitis?

Changing weather fronts, cold temperatures, or excess dryness in the air, Certain foods (for example, spicy foods may trigger mucus flow) Fumes from chemicals, perfumes, cleaning products, smoke, or other irritants. These are the triggering factors, if present kindly try to avoid it.

Apart from your antihistamine drug I would suggest you
1.Drink plenty of water, especially warm, drink at regular intervals.
2. Steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil 3 to four times a day.
3. Instead of saline nasal spray, use decongestant Nasal spray like xylometazoline.
4. Wash your face with warm water in night before going to bed and gently blow your nose.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

Hope this helps.
Take care
