Suggest Remedies For Itchy And Painful Rashes In Lower Legs

Question: XXXX here: I have painful 6-7 red "bites" on my lower left leg and foot only; severe itch; responds well to an alcohol wash, Benadryl and calamine lotion. Though earlier bites on same leg have healed, new bites itch intensely. Problem has lasted for 3-4 days. Just inspected bed sheets for "bed bugs" and unable to find telltale signs there. Your diagnosis and suggestions please.

Thank you for your concern.

Lack of technical expertise leaves me unable to take and upload an image of the bites.

At the moment, 2-3 of them are oozing light "rust colored blood" if there is such a thing - but not as white as puss. AND, once I get moving there is generalized pain in my lower leg until after I sit down. At that point the pain is reduced, but not eliminated. My left ankle is slightly swollen.

Again, thank you for your concern. I'll continue with my alcohol wash, oral Benadryl and Caladryl lotion treatment.

I have reviewed your information fully. You seem pretty certain that there is no active infection. In addition to the above measures, I will like that you take Ibuprofen 400mg thrice daily to help relief the pains and swelling. Keep me updated with your progress. If at any time you think there is a possible infection, then you would need to be evaluated in person so as to consider the possibility of prescribing antibiotics.

Dr. Ditah -

After a weekend of pain, I went to see my GP this morning. I took your suggestion to take Ibuprofin - (I took 2 Bayer aspirin) and the swelling in my ankle abated significantly. My Sunday night sleep was far beter than my Saturday night sleep.

My doctor did not know what bit me, but prescribed an antibiotic and a salve/ointment both of which are taken/applied twice a day.

Thank you for your help. I think I'm well on my way to good health.

Very itchy this morning, but generally getting better and better. Antibiotic and ointment are gradually taking effect.
