Suggest Remedies For Dry Mouth And Loss Of Appetite While On Citalopram

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I am taking citalopram 10mg 1x a day along with quitiapine for sleep at bedtime. I'm experiencing dry
mouth, poor appetite, and still not getting enough sleep 4-5 hrs. if I'm lucky. I'm 78 yrs. old and my
doctor said I may have Gerd as I have had similar feelings, acidity, and burping a great deal.
What do you suggest? My e-mail is YYYY@YYYY . Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

I suggest stopping the citalopram and the quetiapine. Both of these can cause dry mouth. I would replace these with mirtazapine, a medication that is very good for insomnia, and also stimulates appetite. I would continue using the omeprazole for acid reflux, perhaps at a higher dose.
