Brief Answer:
Delayed Menstruation,Need more details for assessment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking you question at HealthcareMagic,

Before giving a definitive answer , I would like to know more details about her history--

- does she used to have regular menstrual cycles before?
- Is she on any hormonal contraceptives including ocp, implants, nuva ring, intra uterine device ?
- Any thyroid problems?
- cold/heat intolerance, weight changes, skin or hair changes
- history of high blood sugar-Pain during menstrual cycles.
- Any past obstetric history like child birth, miscarriage

Treatment for delayed periods depend on the cause.
Most importantly pregnancy needs to be ruled out and it'd be better to take a home pregnancy test at first.
If she previously use to have regular cycles then stress, diet changes, new exercise schedule, pregnancy, medications including hormonal contraceptive can also cause delayed menstruation.

Please follow up with those details about her history so that I can guide you more specifically.

Awaiting..
Regards

Brief Answer:
Delayed Menstruation, Rule out pregnancy with Home pregnancy test

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for following up with the details

Since she do not have any concerning previous history, pregnancy is definitely a possibility.
I recommend that she take a home pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

Home pregnancy test are available for purchase at pharmacies and they will have instructions on how to use the test included. There are different brands available. The pregnancy test look for the presence of beta HCG(hormone seen in pregnancy) in urine.I recommend that she take the test with early morning urine samples to avoid any false negative results, as levels of beta HCG is highest in early morning urine sample.

Since there is a possibility of pregnancy, I'd recommend that
- avoid alcohol and smoking, if any
- Discuss use of medications/medical conditions with your doctor
- Start taking folic acid 400mg tablet daily if the test comes back positive
- healthy eating habits with diet rich in fruits, vegetables and protein.
-exercise regularly

After taking the test, I'd advice that you follow up with your doctor for appropriate management.

Hope I was able to answer your question

Folic acid helps in proper fetal development

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for addressing your question.

Folic acid is recommended for pregnant woman. Folic acid is naturally found in food like green leafy vegetables. However, dietary intake of folic acid may not be adequately met and taking folic acid supplement is recommended during pregnancy.

Folic acid is important for the proper fetal (baby) brain and spine development.
Recommended daily dose of folic acid is 400 mg.
