Suggest Remedies For Allergic Reaction To Hair Dye

Question: in October 2015 I had an allergic reaction to fake hair XXXXXXX at the time I didn't know it was that. my lips, face and neck were swollen so bad that i went to the emergency room. I felt better for awhile and then my face started to swell again. I was put on flonase and zyrtec for allergies. also antibiotics. I didn't feel any better on them but kept taking them. 7 months later I still have the same symptoms but worse. I was treated for sinuitis and treated with three more rounds of antibiotics...ten days each. I saw an e.n.t who diagnosed me with blocked nose and sent me home with flonase. I used it but everything got worse. the sinus under my eyes and around my nose swell. two weeks ago I stopped all allergy pills and I noticed alot less swelling but still very obvious. please help me. I'm at my wits end. the swelling is obvious. I don't think it's allergies cause annhistamines makes it worse. I don't beleive it is allergies because no allergy pills help. there is no pattern or reason just that it does happen everyday

I have gone carefully through your query and can explain what happened. In reaction to the XXXXXXX you suffered from an anaphylaxis. It is a form of allergic reaction but mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) and not histamines. That is the reason that you did not respond well to antihistamines. The nasal block and sinusitis are part of the allergic reaction in your body. Flonase is a topical steroid that should provide release. I would also insist you to use saline nasal drops and steam inhalation for release of your nasal block.

On a long term basis, I would insist you to take Montair LC (monteleukast + levocetirizine) once daily continuously for next two weeks and then off and on as required. I would hope that would take care of your problem. If that does not help, you would need to be treated with oral steroids like prednisolone. This is important and if given properly you need not worry about side effects.

these pics were taken on the same day. I was treated with prednisone and any annhistamines, including flonase, seems to make the swelling worse.

Try taking montair LC and see if that helps. As already mentioned in my earlier communication, it is a prescription medication and so you might need to get it written by your doctor. Discuss with him before taking it. Also get your blood levels of IgE checked.
