Question: Im taking 10 MG of lisinipril once a day for hypertension and it works well but do not like the fact that it may be hard on some of my organs, (kidney, etc.) Is there a safe alternative which may work as well with few or fewer side effects that you know of? Any natural options?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that all the antihypertensive drugs have adverse effects. Unfortunately there is no best choice based on their adverse effect. Usually the drug choice are based on individual tolerance and blood pressure values.

But, if used in low doses (like the dose of lisinopril that you are taking actually), there is nothing to be concerned of.

Anyway, I would recommend some natural remedies to help normalize your blood pressure values:

1- reduce salt and caffeine intake
2- perform a lot of physical activity (yoga, aerobics, walking )
3- try to lose some pounds if you are overweight (your systolic blood pressure will drop with 13mmHg if you lose 20 pounds).
4- try to eat some foods which are known to naturally lower your blood pressure (lemon juice, garlic, beetroot, fish oil, cashews and almonds, green tea, green coffee, etc.).

If your blood pressure drops naturally, you may not need to take antihypertensive drugs any more.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
