Brief Answer:
COPD and lung infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Elderly people are prone to respiratory tract infection ,particularity pneumonia and most of the time precipitating factor is exposure to cold(working with wet body).
Also elderly people has reduced immune function, reduced respiratory muscle strength and endurance, altered mucus layer, poor nutritional status and the increased prevalence of chronic lung disease (as COPD in your father).

That is the exact way your father has developed infection leading to cough and fever.
Repeated bouts of cough sometimes leads to vomiting as chemo-receptor trigger zone for vomiting is close to cough center in the brain stem(medulla).

Your father will recover from lung infection with a course of appropriate antibiotic(s).
