Noticed Purple Lump On Inner Labia. It Is Painless. What Could This Be?

Posted on Tue, 7 Aug 2012
Question: I am 46. I am married and never had an STD. I had my last child 4 years ago. I noticed a single purple lump on my inner labia. The skin around is not discolored and the edges are smooth. It is painless and I have no symptoms. I am about to panic. I just scheduled an appointment with my gyn. What could this be? Thank you.

hi,
Thanks for the query.

the possible causes for your symptoms are,
-bartholin cyst: bartholin gland lies on the inner side of vagina, which helps in lubrication during intercourse, when the duct gets blocked it will present as cyst, if it gets infected it will become abscess,
when tensed cyst can appear as lump,

-gartner's duct: it can occur from remnets of mesonephric duct which will present on inner side of vaginal wall,

-inclusion cysts: which can occur due to trauma.

usually these will not be XXXXXXX so you don't get afraid after consulting your doctor she will examine and determine the exact nature of the lump then treatment can be taken according to that.

hi,

normally the genital skin will be darker compared with normal skin so when distension occur that may look as purple,
in case of accumulation of blood also that can look purple but that is unlikely in your case because you are not having any pain or symptoms.
