Suggest Treatment For Migraine

Sir My age is 40 years male and height is 165cms. Medical history: I am suffering from the headache on right side of my head for the past 10-12 years. About three years back, when the frequency and intensity of headaches aggravated, I consulted doctor. He diagnosed migraine. During headaches there was throbbing pain on one side, hatred for light but no nausea and vomiting. I had also brain MRI done which detected one arachnoid cyst in mid brain but doctor advised me that this is harmless cyst and is not the cause of headache. He advised Ciplar LA 40mg on one daily basis and Tab Topirol one daily for one week. I took ciplar LA 40mg and there was not even the single incidence of headache but when I stopped taking medicine headaches started immediately. During the last three years I had homeopathic and ayurvedic medicines also. Severity and frequency was drastically reduced during the last three years. But bow for the past two months the headaches are gradually increasing but with the difference that pains are not throbbing and there is no averseness to light. When I watch television for about more than one hour, do physical exercise then there are 75% chances that there will be headache next day. I have restarted ciplar LA 40 mg once daily at my own for the past 10 days but it has not caused much relief. Please suggest future course of treatmen My email ID is : YYYY@YYYY Thanks Rakesh Garg Ludhiana

Hi,

First of all, hypertension and oral contraceptive pills for women can cause headache. Second, Ciplar la 40 should be taken three times per day before meals if you do not have a cardiac disease, because this drug has a short duration of action. The sudden stop of ciplar la 40 can make headache more severe than before. You should use ciplar la 40 alone and if it was ineffective you could add topirol.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
