Question: My mother is 74 and very active and healthy but is on Plavix after having a moderate stroke (with not after effects). Today she got gout in her finger and her doctor told her she can't have painkillers but maybe Tylenol once in a while. That sound weird to me that she could have it "once in a while". It is either dangerous or it is not. She also has a 3mm aneurysm that was accidentally found on the stroke MRI so I don't want her to risk any bleeding. Is it OK to take Tylenol with Aspirin/Plavix and what are the best ways to relieve pain...heat or cold?

A couple more questions:
#1 Can high uric acid cause problems more serious than gout. She would like to treat this with diet instead of meds if the risk is only reoccurrence of gout.
#2 Can she drink tart cherry juice concentrate with Plavix and aspirin? Like I mentioned she has a 3 mm brain aneurysm and we are not sure if Plavix increases the risk of rupture so we are very cautious of adding anything blood thinning to her diet.

High uric acid levels can cause kidney damage due to deposition of uric acid apart from causing gout and arthritis but it's a late complications.Yiu can rule out renal damage with renal function tests and ultrasonography. You can control your body uric acid levels by following strict dietary habits but if uric acid levels are elevated considerably you have to use medications to decrease uric acid to prevent renal damage.
Some of foods that can cause high uric acid include red meat ,liver,beans, cauliflower and alcohol beverages.Tart cherry juice has lot of amazing health benefits along with giving pain relief from gout and arthritis.You can take this juice 250-300ml per day without side effects.Like NSAIDS it also has Cox inhibitor which can gastric mucosal ulceration leading to peptic ulcer disease but this side effect is only when taken in high quantities.You need to use proton pump inhibitors to prevent peptic ulcer which can be caused by plavix or aspirin too.

just came back and it is not gout. She is in extreme pain and

Her upper finger is red, swollen, feverish and the nail is turning
