I've Been Experiencing Weird Sensations For The Better Part Of

Question: I've been experiencing weird sensations for the better part of a year. I should mention that I took a pretty significant fall about 3 years ago and hit my head, but felt fine after even though I chipped a tooth. After about a year I developed a pretty stiff and sore neck and the left side, so much that I couldn't turn my head to the right. That eventually went away after a month or two. A year later is when everything went sideways. After a brief run on the treadmill I noticed a stiffness in my left butt cheek, so I stopped and started to stretch it out. I noticed that my left leg had weird sensations going down my inner thigh and it was becoming difficult to walk or run. I put even more weight on it to balance out the weight. I started loosing even more sensation in my leg, but it was still functional. It felt like all the muscles had been pressed backwards. It was shortly thereafter that I started experiencing diarrhea and felt like I was losing control over my bowels. Thankfully this only lasted for a few weeks. After that i was at my girlfriends house having sexual intercourse when I lost sensation in the left side of my penis and scrotum. This went on for weeks and it was causing urinary retention where I had to constantly go to the bathroom but barely anything came out. And when I did get a flow going it still felt like I had urine still in my bladder afterwards. In January I was at work with my feet up on the desk playing a competitive game on my phone when all of a sudden I felt and heard a snapping in the left side of my body (I'm convinced now that this snap was in my head /neck) which caused everything on the left side of my body to contract. All my muscles were extremely tight, but after 2 weeks the started to loosen again. I also had really bad pain above my left eye and felt my teeth were being pulled. But I wasn't feeling right. I went to my doctor and had xrays from my waist down and found that I had constipation and a bit of arthritis in my lower back. I was sent home and stated putting more fiber into my diet. It was extremely difficult passing a bowel movement when I was able to, otherwise I would go days without having one. Sitting had become difficult as I would constantly move in my seat to find a different position. I was ok when I was active, but when I sat it was sore on my butt cheek. I went back to my doctor and he did a full panel CBC blood panel and everything came back fine. I also went to an ENT for the little stiffness I still had in my neck and the constant clogging in my ear and all my tests came back fine. My doctor sent me to an osteopath and had some work done with the osteopath until one of our sessions caused sensations starting to happen in the right side of my body, starting in the leg and waist, like the left side. I stopped seeing him after that and was at a complete loss. I was also fighting with my girlfriend a lot and I was starting to get anxious around her. I eventually found another osteopath and he took a more hands on approach than the last one. He fixed a few issues with my posture and allowed me to breath a bit better than what I was able to do. It's been months since then and my doctor diagnosed me with anxiety and I have been seeing a Neorpsychologist. I was also given CBD oil to help with the anxiety. I also just recently had a CT scan for my abdominal and pelvic area, because of the blood in my stool and the pain that I still experience in my lower back. However there feels like something in my head has separated and my breathing is the worst it's ever been and I have dulled sensitivity all over my body now. I find when I breath properly some sensation comes back. I feel like I've been split open from my spin from head to toe and feel like an elastic band that exists from the center of my head down to the center of my pelvic area has separated entirely making me feel like there's been a separation right down the center of my body. And a few months ago because I was breathing poorly (probably inverted) it felt like something was crawling up my backside until it got to my skull at which point it felt like the roof of my mouth had so much pressure pushing against it that something felt like it broke and I had the worst pain in the roof of my mouth and was digging for days afterwards. I am convinced that I ruined a vital support structure in my head. Now my jaw and cheeks hurt an the time.

Please someone, help me with what is happening to me.

Brief Answer:
Neurological conditions to consider and evaluate further.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Before to leave the culprit to anxiety, in my opinion, there are conditions that should be considered and excluded first.

Given the relapsing-remitting pattern of your symptoms, multiple sclerosis is a condition to consider.

Another condition to consider is spinal cord stenosis, spinal column instability, etc.

Head and brain trauma may cause problems in the first days and weeks following it, but not after this much time.

In my opinion, a more comprehensive evaluation for these conditions with a careful neurological examination and with imaging studies such as dynamic x-rays of your lumbosacral and cervical spine, MRI of the brain and spinal cord, are necessary to get a correct diagnosis.

If these examinations come normally then you should exclude any anxiety components.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

How does one get diagnosed with MS? As I understand it there is no discernable tests to evaluate MS and Fibromyalgia properly. My GP ruled MS and Fibromyalgia out simply by asking me questions, he never ran any tests and from everything I've read, multiple tests across various disciplines are required to come to the conclusion of MS or Fibromyalgia. I've had xrays of my neck, skull, chest, abdomen and pelvic area and they all came back fine, with the exception of minor arthritis in my lower back at my waist level. I've also had a CT scan with contrast for my abdomen and pelvic regions, and those apparently came back fine. My osteopath has said that he's getting a lot of resistance in my cervical spinal area with the vertebrae. He's helped correct my posture but at the same time, I seem to feel weaker a few days after our sessions. I'm experiencing more symptoms involved with my head and neck these days. It seems my breathing is affecting multiple points over my body. If I'm not breathing right, it affects sensitivity over other parts of my body like legs, arms and shoulders. I've noticed that my jaw and other parts of my head seem to be slipping out of place and I'm doing these exaggerated jaw movements to give myself temporary relief. Sometimes it feels like the center of my head is caving downwards into my stomach and I need deep exaggerated breaths to bring it back up. I feel like something in my head has snapped/ripped/torn. Should I be asking for an MRI of my cervical spine and my brain to properly diagnose this? My doctor is really adamant about not prescribing me another scan, especially an MRI, and is totally convinced that this is all anxiety related. How do I approach this with him, as he probably thinks I'm a hypercondriac at this point. He's also given me Cipralex for the anxiety, which I have not started taking yet, but if these symptoms were psychosomatic would the Cipralex help to alleviate any of my symptoms? I've also been taking sublingual methylcobalamin vitamin B12 as well as a multi vitamin and Magnesium L-Threonate to help get into a more relaxed state to help with the anxiety, but some days these symptoms just manifest no matter what. Is there anything else I can be doing in the meantime? I won't get a chance to see my doctor until after the new year.

Brief Answer:
Start using Cipralex and ask for a MRI.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Actually there are tests to diagnose MS and these include MRI of the brain and spinal cord, examination of the cerebrospinal fluid for oligoclonal bands, etc.

Fibromyalgia, in the other hand, is a diagnosis of exclusion, other conditions should be excluded after clinical evaluation and tests.

I think you could start by having a MRI done.

Since you can't see your Doctor until the new year, you can start using Cipralex, if significant improvement, then anxiety is playing a major role in your symptoms.

Hope I helped you.

Take care.

How do I approach my doctor in asking for an MRI? At this point I think he thinks I'm anxiously making stuff up. What should be my first course of action? I'm experiencing a lot of tightness in my chest neck and head. Will the ciprolex alleviate these symptoms? It feels like there's a muscle in my head that's hanging on by a thread and any small movement could cause it to rip or tare. My breathing has become increasingly worse and it feels like I'm breathing in the wrong direction causing lack of sensation throughout my body. I feel like I'm falling apart. Are there any other little things I can do in the meantime to help alleviate some of these issues? Also is ciprolex addictive and what are some of the worst case scenarios in terms of side effects that will happen to me? I don't like taking medication at the best of times, so I would rather do this naturally, but I'm at my wits end. I've tried everything I can think of. The only relief I get these days is when I see my osteopath, but a few days after our session I feel weird. It's there anything else I should be looking into?

Brief Answer:
MRI even to peace your mind.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

As we discussed previously, you can start Cipralex and see how it will affect your symptoms.

If no satisfactory relief then MRI is the next step in achieving a correct diagnosis.

Also you can discuss with your Doctor about getting the MRI done even to peace your mind, since the anxiety is playing a significant role in your symptoms.

Hope I helped you.
Greetings.
