This skin condition has a correlation with HIV infection. The prevalence
of seborrheic dermatitis varies between 3% and 5% in general population, while in HIV positive patients there is an increased prevalence ranging between 30% and 83%.
People who have immune system problems such as HIV/AIDS are more prone to develop severe seborrhoeic dermatitis. So in such cases this skin condition is more severe and difficult to treat then in general population.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis may occur at any stage of HIV infection.It may occur early in the course of HIV infection or in the late stage (AIDS).
Usually it occurs some years after the infection when the level of CD4 begin to decline.
