Is Prolactin Level Of 238 A Cause For Concern?
Question: my daughter prolactium is 238. iam worried about this. what is cause behind this, who is specialist doctor for this, further treatment. hot it decreased. there is not headache nor stress. problem of period exist, but now is ok. kindly tell full detail

The prolactin levels of 238 though high indicates some form of hormonal imbalance.
You need not worry as such imbalances are common in young women.
You should get her TSH levels done if not done already as prolactin and thyroid disorders are known to occur simultaneously .
If her TSH is normal she can take cabergoline or bromocriptine tablets under the supervision of a endocrinologist to normalize the prolactin.
Do not worry, it usually normalises in 3 months.
If prolactin levels are more than 1000 CT scan of brain is advisable but as values are way below that you need not worry.

Taking Cabergoline for just 6 weeks can revert the prolactin levels to normal. Try taking at night time so as to decrease side effects.
And after 6 weeks of therapy repeat prolactin levels. The dosage of cabergoline is important, usually its started at 0.5 mg in two doses per week not daily.
So make sure she is not taking excess dosage.
