Question: Hi, My wife has 3 weeks pregnancy and her doctor prescribed Fertigyn 5000 inj once in week. She had miscarriage last year in March after first trimester due to incompetent OS. apart from that Dr has given her prenone 200 vaginally tablets. I have studied FDA category of Fertigyn is "X" which is clearly not safe in pregnancy, still should we go for this injection.
Brief Answer:
Both fertigyn and prenone safe in pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting health care magic.
Fertigyn contains HCG as you must have read about it already, it is a hormone normally secreted by placenta and functions to support pregnancy.
It is perfectly safe and a commonly prescribed drug for supporting high risk pregnancy.
Internet usually gives a spectrum of observations which are many a times not evidence based.
I'm an infertility and high risk pregnancy specialist and prescribe HCG to all my IVF (in vitro fertilization or test tube baby) conceived patients.
It is a promising drug and supports ongoing pregnancy to a great extent.
PRENONE 200 mg tablets contain progesterone which helps in stopping uterine contractions if any
In my opinion she should continue with the medicine and take adequate bed rest because incompetent os at times causes preterm labour and mid trimester pregnancy loss.
I hope I have answered your question but if you have any other query, I will be happy to help.
Wish her best of health
