Is Clear Colorless Menstrual Bleeding After A Tubal Ligation?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Hello,
I am 30 years old, I'm also on the pill for abnormal heavy bleeding. I also had a tubal litigation. I have been having my periods what seems to be clear. There is no color to it and before I began my period it seems like my discharge had tiny specks of what looks to be of old blood. Very tiny specks though but thus happened a week before my period. Now I'm having a clear period. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
It is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The minor specs of the old blood can be from the old blood left over from your previous period. This is a normal finding and is not worrisome.
Just watch if the old blood discharge is related to having sex. If this happens after sex then it is best to get a PAP smear done to rule out any cervical pathology.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX Tayal
Thanks for answering my question. I'm am still having the old blood and no period. I'm having a clear discharge like it's a period with what looks like dead tissue. Is this normal for my monthly period via birthcontrol? My body is acting like I'm on my period: cramping, etc. Should I be concern about this type of unusual period?

Brief Answer:
Can happen while taking the pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The decreased bleeding can happen with a birth control pill. The mild dead tissue that you have can be due to the endometrial lining that is shed during the periods.
You need not worry. This can happen once in a while. Do start with the new pack on the scheduled time. This discharge will gradually stop on its own.
Hope my answer is helpful.
