Is TMS Test Mandatory During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: Hello,

I am XXXXXXX - 29 year old and I am 16 weeks pregnant - during my last visit to the doctor which was 2 weeks back (during 13th week) she had informed me that she would perform TMS test after 15 weeks of pregnancy. My question:
What is TMS test and is it really mandatory to have it done? Will it have any side effects because what I read is it is related to a scan and I have heard lot of instances regarding scans during pregnancy. Please help me.

Brief Answer:
A harmless but very useful test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
TMS is a triple marker screen test which involves an ultrasound scan and a blood test. It is completely harmless for the baby. But it helps in detecting major congenital malformations and chromosomal defects in the baby.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
