Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: hey doctor. I had unprotected sex with my friend one night stand. then both of us got tested at lab quest for all STDS- 8 test panel including herpes igg 1/2 in 10 days, 3 months and 16 weeks after the last exposure. the results were negative for both of us. my partner results for hsv 1 and 2 were < 0.90. Do we need to retest again in different time or we are free of stds? i did not have sex with my wife for 16 weeks. am i clean from the last exposure? can i have sex with my wife? Thank you

Brief answer....no need for retesting except that you may get a HIV test after 6 months of exposure.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
STD's 8 test panel tests for 8 types of common sexually transmitted tests.
These are chlamydia,gonorrhoea,hepatitis B and C,HSV 1 &2,HIV and syphilis.
If these tests are coming normal even after a 4 months of unprotected sexual exposure,it means you are free of them and there is no need for any retesting as well as any mental stress.
Maximum you can get tested for HIV again after a gap of six months to be on complete safe side as in few rare cases HIV can get positive after 6 months.
There is no need for any re test for any other STD because all of them are confirmatory maximum by 6-8 weeks.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me or any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks.

Hello,
I have already answered this question in my earlier reply.
There is no need for retesting for any other STD except HIV.
At the end of 6 months, only retesting for HIV should be considered.
Thanks
