Question: Hi Doctor,
I had unprotected oral sex( i was the receiver) 20 weeks back. For confirmation purpose,i got hiv test(tri dot) after 3 months(14 weeks) and then Elisa test(after 15 weeks). Both returned negative.I also underwent western blot after 20 weeks which returned negative.ALong with this,I did get a VDRL test done(after 14 weeks and 20 weeks) as well to screen for syphillis which returned negative. Can these results be conclusive?

Brief Answer:
These tests are fine. Also screen for herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.

Tri dot and ELISA for HIV screening are conclusive 3 months and beyond after last sexual encounter. Negative Vdrl for syphilis is also conclusive beyond a window period of 3 months. Therefore, since all of these screening tests were done past the window period of detection from your last sexual encounter hence they are all conclusive.
You did nt screen for herpes though?i suggest you to take a blood test for hsv ELISA (type 1&2) for a complete STD screening.
