default
Posted on Wed, 21 Jan 2015
Question: I've been on clindamycin for 8 days for chronic sinus infection.I have slightly improved but am still clogged and a lot of drainage i ve taken it 4 times a day at 150 mg. Shouldn't I have more improvement by now? I'm suppose to take it for 2; weeks total.
Its the sinuses below my eyes that are infected.I think I should be more improved than what I am for being on it this long.

Brief Answer:
take complete 2 week course of clindamycin.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXX ,
I can understand your concern .
Based on information that you have given to me your diagnosis seems to be maxillary sinusitis .
You are taking clindamycin 150 mg 4 times daily.
I would like to inform you that clindamycin is one of best drug for serious staphylococcus or streptococcal infection most common cause of sinusitis . It covers even MRSA also that are resistant to most antibiotics .
So in my opinion you have been prescribed good antibiotics considering severity of infection that didn't responded well to levofloxacin .
But in my opinion you need antihistaminics and decongestant also.this will help you symptomatically a lot . you will feel some immediate relief from congestion and excessive nasal discharge . Don't worry about dose and week of therapy.

So in my opinion continue with the same medicine ,complete it's full course as advised by your doctor and simultaneously discuss about addition of antihistaminics and decongestant .
There is no benefit of frequent change of antibiotics .It will take its time to resolve . So keep faith in your doctor and complete the 2 weeks therapy . If it didn't respond well to 2 weeks therapy of antibiotics then discuss with your ENT specialist for next management strategy .
Hope I have answered your question .
If you have any other concerns please feel free to message me at any time.
I will be pleased to help you .
