Question: Dear Doctor, my husband has got Pneumonia By E.coli. He got a prescription for Ciprofloxacin for two weeks. But he is allergic for norfloxacin. Can he use Ciprofloxacin?

Norfloxacin and Ciprofloxacin are antibiotics from the same chemical group. So if he is allergic to one of them, he can not take any antibiotic from this group. Ciprofloxacin can cause allergic reaction as well.
So answering your question, he should not use it.

As the bacteria is identified, there should be an antibiogram (bacteria sensitivity to antibiotics). One of other antibiotics mentioned in this report can be used.
