Is 4th Generation Duo Test Done After Seven Months Conclusive?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: Good morning I did a 4th generation duo test after 7 month of unprotected vaginal sex I'm a female ... It was non reactive ... Is this conclusive ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
yes its conclusive and there is no HIV EXPOSURE as test is negative

Detailed Answer:
hello,
tHANKS FOR contacting HCM,
If your 4th gen duo test has been negative after 7 months then it is conclusive that you are free from HIV EXPOSURE.
P24 antigen will be detectable before antibodies. P24 is the virus core itself and that is what stimulates antibodies to be produced. The duo test (4th generation) will detect P24 antigen from around 12 days in some people peaking at 28 days, after that P24 drops as antibodies are made. The 4th generation test will detect both antigen and antibody. The older tests (3rd generation) take from 6 weeks to 12 weeks for most people.
As your sexual exposure is 7 months already , and still the test is negative , then it concludes that there has been no HIV EXPOSURE FOR SURE,

Doctor thank you for your answer ... Another question.... Would taking valtrex affect my heptitis b test results and syphilis tes results ... These were done after 5 months of exposure ...

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Valtrex (valacyclovir) is an antiviral used for viral infectious diseases like herpes simplex and zoster. Ideally it should not effect the hepatitis results or for that matter syphilis results. iF THEY ARE NEGATIVE then you don't suffer from them.

Then my hepatitis b test at 5 months should be conclusive correct ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered

Detailed Answer:
Yes of course , 5 months time is a very long time for any antiviral drug to remain persistent in the body. It generally metabolites by a week after the last dose. Hence the hepatitis b results have been conclusive.

Im sorry I got confused regarding the antiviral and the hepatitis b result , I wasn't taking Valtrex for 5 months It was just two weeks prior that I started taking Valtrex and I was taking it at the moment of the test ,the exposure ( unprotected vaginal sex ) was 5 months prior to the hepatitis b test and it came back negative ... Sorry maybe my question wasn't very clear...
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (5 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Valtrex would not affect the result

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Even in that case valtrex will not have an effect on the results of hepatitis B because the test is antigen -antibody based and HbsAg IgG and IgM , where a recent infection would have caused a raised IgM levels and if it would have been a chronic infection, then IgG levels would have been raised.

Valtrex per se cannot affect the immunoglobulins levels so the results would have been conclusive anyways when it has come out to be negative, ensuring that you are hepatitis free.

Brief Answer:
yes , its an ipill bleed....

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
YES , i agree with your physician as IgM hepatitis core antibody would have indicated a recent infection and if negative , rules out any exposure completely. So rest assured and relax.

Ok I'm cleared with that .., so just to be cleared with clammydia and gonorrhea if I was taking valtrex at the time of the test (swab test ) it would be conclusive as well ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (19 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered

Detailed Answer:
hello,
Valtrex has no effect on chlamydia and gonorrhoea as its an antiviral and not an anti-bacterial.
So whatever the results of swab test , they are unaffected by valtrx.

One more question ... I also did the swab test two days after my period was over for clammydia and gonorrheah .... Would that has affected my test results ? The doctor told me no that my test was accurate ? Is this correct ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered

Detailed Answer:
No, the test wouldn't have been affected by the fact that you htook the test 2 days after your menses ended. An infection with chlamydia would have caused a urinary tract infection as well and if the test was negative, it was indeed conclusive.

Thank you ... When she tested me she asked me if I had my period before and I told her yes that it was over two days ago ... She told me she could still see a lil blood but that I wouldnt affect my swab test anyways .... Is this correct ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered...

Detailed Answer:
yes it is absolutely correct as menstrual blood doesn't affect the growth of chlamydia if at all it is present in the vaginal canal. So if the test has been negative, you are safe and free from chlamydia for sure.
