Question: big problem with constipation. Recently had hernia repaired and 4 months later had colonoscopy. Dr found a sizable polyp in decending colon. IT was beniign but pre cancerous. I have had constipation problems for 20 sume years. I found out my sister was diagnosed with IBD when she was 17. I was always able to eliminate by using magnesium, merilax, Linzess [for the past few years]. about 4 months ago ecerything seamed to change. no eal solid stools, just mush ecery 3/4 days with lots of help from medicines and merilax, senecor, milk of magnesia and magnesium and Linzess and I would spend two hours. It has just become worse and worse. Harder to get going . Even when I did a two day prep with mirlax day one and Golytrly day two, the Gastroenterologist, I was eliminating clear liquid but no stool. This was about two weeks ago. They changed me from LInzess to trulance. I will be tLKING TO Gastroenterologist because I have only eliminated one small solid stool [yesterday]. I cant get the 3 hour sitd own to eliminate 4 or 5 times. Always diarrhea type elimination. Its been going on 5 days with TRulance and no elimination. Not sure what to do next. Hope Gastroenterologist can help. Do you have any suggestions? concerned about bowl blockage. wondering if new meds started about 4 months ago with high dosage to drop my LDL and Blood pressure and diabetes could be the cause

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to the impacted stool.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Your case sounds like a case of fecal impaction. This impaction can be at any level of the large intestine. I would suggest you initially to get an X-Ray abdomen AP view done empty stomach in morning followed by barium studies to reveal any impaction or blockage. However, you can also try a fleet enema. Even if you don't defecate after that go for Barium studies to rule out impaction or blockage.

Nothing to do with the medications which you've mentioned.

Thank.

Dr. ,My gastroenterologist said to have Miralax twice a day. last night I had a lot of laxitives and cod liver oil etc and was in the bathroom for hours! I eliminated a LOT, but it was all just mush. During the week , I had a few bowl movement an eliminated a small amount of solid stool but with a small diameter [about 1/4 of a inch]. I will be calling the DR again.

I was taking a full cap of miralax. Gastro said to take a full cap of miralax twice a day. ...Fortunately with the new med I eliminate a lot about 4 hours after I take the medicine . I do spend about 1-2 hours and go to the bathroom about 4-6 time. The elimination is not solid at this time. ITs mush. I hope it becomes solid. I take some caster oil oil. So at least it does not all stay in my bowl for days. BUT I STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY STOOL SEEMS TO STAY SO LONG> TO REPEAT, EVEN WITH THE TWO DAY PREP FOR THE COLONOSCOPY [MIRALAX FIRST DAY, GOLYTEY THE SEOND DAY]- IWAS PASSING CLEAR LIQUID BUT DID NOT ELIMINATE VERY MUCH STOOL> THE GATO HAD TO SUCH OUT LOTS OF STOOL FROM MY BOWL!!!!! Why does it stay so long. Seems like it attaches to the colon walls. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Patients query reply.

Detailed Answer:
Hey,
It could be a result of nerve damage to a particular part of intestines or it can be gastroperesis. You should go for a Mri scan of intestine to see if there is mild to moderate damage to motility of intestines.
Thank you.
