How To Treat Pain In The Right Leg?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Oct 2017
Question: Hello, I'm trying to determine if I need medical assistance. I have pain in the back of my right leg and when I touch the area there seems to be a sore spot just above the knee on my lower thigh. It's like a swollen spot. When I experienced this before on this same leg I was told by my doctor that it was a blood clot but because it was on the right and not the left it should be okay. That was many years ago. I take a baby aspirin every evening. I felt this pain 3 days ago and took 6 baby aspirin to basically self- medicate. The swelling and tenderness had gone down but the pain has now moved to my calf area.

Brief Answer:
Possible diagnosis: Bursitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting CHM

The location of pain and associated swelling is suggestive of possible popliteal bursitis (inflammation of popliteal bursa). Bursa is a small fluid filled sac that act as a cushion. Long term war and tear of joints, osteoarthritis, injuries are contributing factors for development of bursitis.
Ultrasound evaluation of knee joint can confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment is with physical therapy and steroid injections into the knee joint.
You can take Tylenol to reduce pain and inflammation.
Apply ice on area of pain. Take rest..Elevate the affected leg.
Your symptoms.are not typical.of blood clot.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation and management
