How To Heal A Cut On The Gums After Tooth Extraction?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Oct 2016
Question: Hi I had a tooth extraction done by an oral surgeon, the tooth had root canals so was harder to extract, however now 8 days later it seems as you can see the bone the stitches are gone and yesterday I noticed that my gum is split from the top where normally the tooth is to below where the bone is...I do not have intense pain just still some discomfort...Should I be worried? Does the split heal? as it seems to me its more open today than even yesterday...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for consulting Healthcaremagic .
This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as split in your gum is concerned after extraction process , the healing starts to take place . There is nothing to be worried this happens by organization of blood clot inside the extraction site . As the new tissue start forming from inside out the visible split will disappear and the gum will start to look and feel even and regular . Tissue will heal on its own and may appear to be normal 4 -6 weeks after post surgery.
InMeantime Do warm saline rinses 3 to 4 times a day . Take proper course of antibiotic prescribed by your dentist . Maintain good oral hygiene . Use chlorhexidine mouthwash regularly.

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
