default
Posted on Tue, 13 May 2014
Question: I just went to the doctors and my blood pressure was 180 over 94. They waited about 1/2 and checked it again, it came down slightly. They wanted me to go to the hospital, I have no history of high BP. When I go to Fam. Phys. it is normally 120 over 70. I am a 43 year old female. What should I do, eyes are blurry, feel chilled and dizzy

Brief Answer: Monitor your blood pressure. Detailed Answer: Hello! I am Dr.Rovena.I had gone through your query and understand your concern. The normal range for blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg and your number 180/94 mmHg is considered vary high. Even you don't have a high blood pressure history It can be the beginning of Hypertension. If it was the first time that your blood pressure is over the normal range it also can be sporadic happening but this we will know only in next days, weeks if your BP is going to stay high. Headache, dizziness, blurred vision are common symptoms of high blood pressure. Untreated high blood pressure can cause serious damage to your heart and brain. If your blood pressure is still that high and doesn't show any tendency to lower I suggest you to go to hospital to get the right treatment. Otherwise If your BP will low in normal value I suggest to monitor it the next 10 days twice a doy and keep note of them. Hope I was able to help you.If you have further questions feel free to write me. I will be happy to answer. Take care. Dr.Rovena

Brief Answer: Visit the ER. Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXX! I suggest to go hospital because your blood pressure is not lowering as much. This shows that you need to take a medication to lower it. If you have any kind of drug used to lower blood pressure at home such as Atenolol,Nifedipine,Enalapril it could help. If you don't have anything go to hospital. Take care.Let me know if you have further questions. Regards Dr.Rovena
