How Long Does Z-pac For Sinus Infection Take To Effect?

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Jan 2015
Question: I have recently went to the dr, because I was feeling ill with a cough, stuffy nose fever and chills. the dr said I may have the flu and a sinus infection due to my seasonal allergies. she listened to my lungs and said I sounded very congested and assured me that it was not pnumonia. she prescribed me athezromyacin, the z-pac. heres my question? How long does it take for the z-pac to work im on my third day and will be taking my third dose tonight, however I am noticing some discomfort and pain on the left mid side of my back, can this be possible pnumonia or maybe just back pain? Note: my phlym has cleared from a greenish to a light greenish to sometimes clear.

Brief Answer:
go ahead.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
As your doctor said it is not pneumonia, it could be a simple lower respiratory infection. Z-pak works well for this and it may take 5 to 7 days for reasonable recovery.
Pain in the left mid back could be due to pneumonia but that is less likely in the setting of having been on antibiotic, with some response.
However, if fever and cough do not subside or if you observe an increase in the back ache over the next 48 hrs, i would recommend you to revisit your doctor for getting a chest X Ray done.
That will help in the diagnosis and further management options. If your symptoms significantly reduce after 5th day, you need not worry any further.
Hope i am clear.
